Cheeky Monkey's makes history by being Australia's first carbon neutral party bar.

Some businesses take their environmental responsibility more seriously than others. We know that in the daily runnings of our business we generate greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), the cause of climate change. While we make an effort to reduce our contribution to global warming there are a lot of emissions that can't be avoided. So we enlisted local company Coolplanet to calculate and offset our annual carbon emissions. This was done by compiling information from our electricity and gas usage, car fleet, plane flights, waste and communication material and by using conversion figures from the Australian Greenhouse Office. Coolplanet was then able to calculate the amount of greenhouse gas emitted in the last year. Our total was 224 tonnes of GHG which was then offset by supporting 2 different carbon abatement projects. The first involves catching and burning methane from pig and diary farms, while the second comes from the capture and flaring of methane from garbage dumps. So basically, what we did was stop 224 tonnes of GHG being emitted into the atmosphere by using these projects which counter balanced our own emissions. On top of that, we also encourage staff and customers to be aware of their own carbon emissions and to try and reduce them in every day life. It is important to raise peoples awareness and desire for action on the greatest environmental crisis of our time. We feel Cheeky Monkey's is a business that is leading the way forward, in our efforts to stop global warming.
